2014 Hyundai i10 front three-quarter

Hyundai has just revealed the new i10, the sub-Accent five-door sold in Europe. The diminutive city car first went on sale in 2007, but received a light facelift in 2011, to bring it more in line with Hyundai’s then-new styling theme. The new model is an even more style-conscious offering, with a gaping front fascia, integrated LED running lights (because, why not?), and a stylish side strakes integrated into the doors.

The new model is longer (80 millimeters or 3.14 inches) and wider (65 mm or 2.5 in) than the car it replaces, but is 50 mm (2.0 in) lower than the old i10. The result is a purported best-in-class legroom and cargo space, while the lower overall height should lead to a slightly better driving experience. The wheelbase has been stretched an inconsequential five millimeters as well, as part of its move to a new platform.

Hyundai hasn’t announced any engines just yet, although we’d suspect the regular suite of three- and four-cylinder engines, with both gas and diesel options will be available. The new i10 begins production in September, and will do battle with A-segment stalwarts like the Fiat Panda, Renault Twingo and Volkswagen Up!.

Zagato Aston Martin Centennial concept - front three-quarter view

Zagato Aston Martin Centennial roadster concept - rear three-quarter viewCreating custom Aston Martin cars has become a specialty for Italian coachbuilder Zagato. It’s no surprise then that Zagato is getting in on the 100-year celebration of the British sports car maker with a pair of one-off models for two very dedicated – and presumably wealthy – automotive connoisseurs. Both rebodied Astons ditch the iconic designs of the DBS and DB9 in favor of a “more Mediterranean” appearance that adds a whole new level of sexiness to these cars, with squared-off edges and wider rear haunches.

The DBS Coupe Zagato Centennial is heading to an unnamed Japanese entrepreneur, while the DB9 Spyder Zagato Centennial (based on the DB9 Volante) will wind up here in America in the possession of Aston Martin collector Peter Read. The wide, flat grille is somewhat recognizable as an Aston Martin, but it looks like the only visual parts carried over from the production cars to these Zagatos are the door handles. Scroll down for a brief press release covering both cars, which points out that the Coupe’s double-bubble roof pays homage to Zagato models from the19’50s.

Report: Hennessey unveils C7 Corvette Stingray upgrades that reach 1,000 HP

Filed under: Aftermarket, Coupe, Performance, Chevrolet, Specialty, Racing

The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray hasn’t even arrived in showrooms, but that minor speed bump hasn’t slowed Hennessey Performance (HPE) from introducing a full suite of packaged (and à la carte) upgrades to the highly anticipated American sports car that will undoubtedly trump even the factory’s future high-performance Z06 and ZR1 models.

In base form, the C7’s new 6.2-liter V8 will be rated at 455 horsepower. While that’s a strong start, Hennessey’s first two packages bolt on a TVS2300 supercharger system and other miscellaneous upgrades to find upwards of 150 additional horses (both come with a 3 Year/36,000-mile warranty). The more aggressive packages start with an HPE custom balanced and forged engine that is accompanied by two ball-bearing turbochargers, forged pistons and plenty of other go-fast hardware to deliver up to 1,000 horsepower (both come with a 1 Year/12,000-mile warranty).

The company has announced four different upgrade programs (prices include professional installation):

  • HPE600 Supercharged ($12,495) 600 hp @ 6,300 rpm
  • HPE700 Supercharged ($18,450) 700 hp @ 6,300 rpm
  • HPE800 Twin-Turbo ($54,950) 800 hp @ 6,300 rpm
  • HPE1000 Twin-Turbo ($67,950) 1,100 hp @ 6,300 rpm

John Hennessey told Autoblog that his company has been planning the C7 upgrades “for over a year” and that his team is “confident that we will be able to adapt the same types of upgrades that we have been doing for the C6 models over the past several years.” While he was unable to offer any performance estimates, Hennessey reminded us that his HPE700 upgrade on the C6 Grand Sport ran 0-60 in 3.3 sec. and 10.7 sec. @ 128 mph. “I would expect similar performance on the C7 or possibly a bit quicker,” he said. “We prefer to be cautious on performance estimates and promises until we know for a fact what the numbers are.” Hennessey Performance plans to have the first cars in customer’s hands by the end of the year.

Official: Aston Martin unveils new Gulf livery for Le Mans

Aston Martin Racing Vantage GTE Gulf Livery

Aston Martin has pulled back the sheets on the company’s new Gulf livery for this weekend’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. Penned by Jonathan Wesley, the Number 97 Vantage GTE will wear the colors throughout race week as the car prepares to compete in the 90th 24 Hours of Le Mans. Darren Turner, Stefan Mucke and Peter Dumbreck will all take turns behind the wheel of the car. Wesley said he designed the livery using the four Gulf corporate colors arranged from lightest to dark, with the right side painted white and the left painted dark blue to symbolize the change in race conditions from daylight to dusk.

Fans chose Wesley’s design from a spate of others as part of a Gulf contest. As a result, the designer will spend Le Mans weekend as a VIP guest with Aston Martin. The company says the No. 97 car will compete along with four other Vantage GTE bruisers, but will be the only one to carry the special livery. You can read the full press release below for more information.

IndyCar unveils future car concepts created by Dallara

In 2010, Dallara was announced as the new chassis manufacturer for the 2012 IndyCar Series. Now, two concepts have been presented; both of which use the same chassis but have different skin so as to show off what’s possible as far as aerodynamic tweaking is concerned.

One version is set up for oval racing while the other is prepped to run a road course. The idea behind the two cars is to show the IndyCar teams that the 2012 Dallara chassis will allow for a lot of ingenuity and engineering. The race cars can be outfitted in a manner that works best for a specific team, yet still adheres to IndyCar rules.

While the aero stylings shown on these two concepts are simply serving as a mock-up of what might be, Dallara is still putting its concepts through all sorts of testing programs. The company wants to ensure that safety and performance come together, while it also keeps cost as low as possible without affecting the finished product.

Kia unveils K2 sedan in Shanghai

Kia has launched a new small-car assault on the Chinese market with the introduction of the 2012 K2 at this year’s Shanghai Motor Show. Based on the company’s Rio, the K2 will be offered in both four-door and five-door configurations and should compete with other premium small-car offerings in the market. Kia says the vehicle is the latest in the company’s efforts to better match products with local market tastes, and that the K2 was specifically designed inside and out for Chinese buyers. That means that the vehicle wears a new set of headlights and a slightly-altered grille among a few other minor aesthetic adjustments outside.

Under the hood, the Chinese take on the Rio rocks a variety of drivetrain options, including a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 107 horsepower or a 1.6-liter four-pot with 123 ponies. Both a manual and an automatic transmission option are available for both lumps, though Kia hasn’t said how many gears are on hand.

Kia says that the company will begin producing the four-door K2 this July at a new facility in Jiangsu province. Five-door production will get under way the following month. Hit the jump for the press release, and stay tuned for the official launch of the U.S.-market Rio that’s coming in very short order.

Torque is also up, 553 lb-ft compared to 516 lb-ft. Porsche says that the Panamera Turbo S is capable of reaching 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds as well as a top speed of 190 mph, all while returning an estimated 15/23 mpg. Honda Performance Development unveils new ARX-01e LMP1 racer

After four years of dominating the LMP2 class in the American Le Mans Series, Highcroft Racing is stepping up the big leagues this year, and this is the car with which they aim to do it.

The new ARX-01e uses the same basic chassis and engine as the LMP2 car on which it’s based, but features a heavily revised aerodynamics package for a significantly different form. The 3.4-liter V8 engine now also benefits from a larger air restrictor for more power.

Developed by Wirth Research, the ARX-01e ditches last year’s Acura branding for Honda Racing Development (HPD). And with former sponsor Tequila Patron stepping up to title-sponsor the ALMS series as a whole, Highcroft’s ARX-01e is being used by Michelin to promote its latest performance street tires.

The car recently underwent its first shakedown at Sebring, which it’s set to take on later this week at the famous 12-hour race. Check out the high-resolution images in the gallery below for a closer look and the details in the press release after the jump for more.

Report: Ford unveils gas-fueled F-650

2011 Ford F-650 Gas Engine

Medium-duty truck buyers looking to purchase a Ford F-650 can currently expect to pay at least $57,000. A big reason for the high price of entry is the effective but expensive 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engine. According to PickupTrucks.com, a new lower-cost solution is apparently on the way. The website reports that Ford plans to offer a 362-horsepower, 457 pound-feet of torque 6.8-liter V10. The engine, which used to be available in the Super Duty, will reportedly drop the base price by up to $8,000 while offering fuel economy within about 10 percent of the diesel. Ford is hoping to hit that lofty figure with the help of the 6R140 six-speed transmission that currently changes gears for the 6.7-liter diesel.

A cost savings of $8,000 is significant, but what good is a medium-duty truck if you can’t tow? That won’t be a problem for the gas-powered F-650, as Ford promises a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 30,000 pounds and a Max Gross Combined Rating of 33,000 lbs. The 6.8-liter V10-packing F-650 will be available early in 2012.

Motus unveils production MST-01 and MST-R

Motus MST-01

Motus has officially unveiled the company’s first products at Pratt & Miller’s Michigan facility. The venue was chosen because of Pratt & Miller’s role in engineering the bike’s frame. Not interesting enough for you? Eyeball the bike’s heart, then: a V4, scale version of the pushrod V8 that powers the Corvette Racing C6.R.

Motus says that the engine is good for 160 horsepower and an unknown amount of torque, at least for the moment. That figure is good 20 horsepower more than what Motus originally anticipated out of the design, so a proportionate jump in twist isn’t necessarily out of the question. Thanks to its design, the Motus V4 weighs just 130 pounds and measures 18 inches across at its widest point. We could think of all sorts of unseemly uses for such a contraption.

According to Hell for Leather, the MST-01 and MST-R are designed to be a counterpoint to the traditional American-designed motorcycle, offering plenty of comfort and a well-sorted suspension wrapped up in a 500-pound package. Head over to Hell for Leather for a closer look, as well as a video of the bikes’ unveil.
