Video: Polaris RZR in spectacular Dukes Of Hazzard cliff-climb mishap

Filed under: Performance, Videos, Specialty, Off-Road

Bro drives a Polaris RZR up a cliff Dukes of Hazzard-style and then crashes back down.

If Bo Duke were still going at it today, he might have a buzz cut and drive an orange Polaris RZR, but he sure as Hell wouldn’t crash his ride – especially if Luke Duke were in the passenger seat. That said, this modern-day Dukes of Hazzard wannabe didn’t have his cousin riding shotgun, and maybe that’s a good thing. After driving his RZR side-by-side impressively far up the side of a cliff, he came tumbling back down – in the process losing his skateboard helmet and “pretzeling” the poor General Lee-themed Polaris.

While we’re all for having fun in motorized vehicles, let’s take something away from this stunt: A skateboard helmet is hardly enough head protection in a crash like this – especially if it falls off. We consider the driver to be very lucky to have walked away unscathed.

Watch the video below to see the cliff-climbing antics, but only if you’re prepared to deal with some Not Safe For Work explicit language.

Video: Gymkhana video team produces insane off-road flick using Polaris UTV

Filed under: Motorsports, Performance, Marketing/Advertising, Videos, Specialty, Off-Road

Gymkhana video team makes flick of Polaris UTV tearing it up at an abandoned iron mine.

The video team responsible for Ken Block’s first three Gymkhana videos is at it again, but this time, the action has been taken further off-road with a highly modified 2014 RZR XP1000, the new top-of-the-line Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) from Polaris. The video by Mad Media was published today as part of a campaign timed to follow last week’s release of Polaris’ newest offering.

The $20,000 recreational vehicles (Mad Media uses two XP1000s for the shoot), which started off with 107-horsepower 999.6cc two-cylinder engines before modifications, received suspension, engine and drivetrain upgrades before off-road truck racer and UTV champion RJ Anderson pitched them through some truly punishing terrain in an abandoned iron mine in Southern California’s desert.

The stunts are insane, and we’re impressed by the little UTV’s capabilities, but to our eyes, the video lacks the finesse and progression of the first three Ken Block Gymkhana videos. The single-pitch drone of the UTV’s engine doesn’t help, either. Watch as much off-road action as you want in the 10+ minute video below.

Video: Polaris quad with a 454 big-block? Why, yes… yes you can

Big Block Polaris Quad

Big-block Polaris quad – Click above to watch the video after the break

With a little blood, sweat and some good ol’ American ingenuity, almost anything is possible. Whether or not “possible” equals “advisable,” well… we’ll leave that up to you to decide. In any case, at least one enterprising individual has apparently managed to stuff a big-block Chevrolet engine displacing 454 cubic inches inside the tight confines of a Polaris ATV.

There doesn’t seem to be any rear suspension on this quad, so those massive balloon tires will have to suffice. While a smooth ride might be problematic, power won’t be. After all, not only is there a 7.4-liter V8 underneath, there are also dual carburetors and long-tube headers. For ultimate ease of use, there’s a Turbo 350 automatic transmission slid in between the engine and solid-axle rear end.

Yes, there’s a video of this beastie in action, and no, the driver is predictably not wearing a helmet. He is, however, enjoying the protection afforded by his apparently ill-fitting cap… that is, until it blows off his now unprotected head. No worries, he’ll swing right back around and put it back on to save his noggin. Safety first! Watch it all go down in the video after the break.
