In 2010, Dallara was announced as the new chassis manufacturer for the 2012 IndyCar Series. Now, two concepts have been presented; both of which use the same chassis but have different skin so as to show off what’s possible as far as aerodynamic tweaking is concerned.

One version is set up for oval racing while the other is prepped to run a road course. The idea behind the two cars is to show the IndyCar teams that the 2012 Dallara chassis will allow for a lot of ingenuity and engineering. The race cars can be outfitted in a manner that works best for a specific team, yet still adheres to IndyCar rules.

While the aero stylings shown on these two concepts are simply serving as a mock-up of what might be, Dallara is still putting its concepts through all sorts of testing programs. The company wants to ensure that safety and performance come together, while it also keeps cost as low as possible without affecting the finished product.

If you need a paper airplane, boat, or hat, we’re your guys. If you’re looking for far more intricate Origami, well… you’re probably going to need an expert like Taras Lesko.

The Origami wunderkind decided to ply his trade in an effort to create the Audi A7 Papercraft, and the results are breathtaking. Lesko used 285 pieces of paper and 750 individual parts to create the blue beauty, and he had cameras rolling to capture the action. Tricky post-editing was used to condense 245 hours of work into less than three minutes. Lesko didn’t just create a four-foot-long body shell with wheels, either – he added a very convincing interior as well. Hit the jump to watch the video.

Fiat 500 art cars created in Miami at Exhibitalia

We wouldn’t have taken something like the Art Basel festival in Miami Beach as a typical showcase for automobiles, but after Tesla rolled out its art car and Maybach spearheaded its sculpture initiative there, Fiat became the third automaker to strut its stuff at the festival among the 2,000 artists from around the world.

Fiat’s display took place at the four-day Exhibitalia event, where several renowned artists and two student teams from the University of Miami used its tiny 500 as their “inspiration and canvas” in the creation of their works. Some created pieces inspired by the Cinquecento, some used body panels, and one even used the entire vehicle, transforming it into an art car on par with anything BMW could throw at it. Check it out in the gallery below and the press release after the jump.

How Audi created the e-tron Spyder

Making the Audi e-tron Spyder – Click above for high-res image gallery

Audi has pulled back the covers on how it created the e-tron Spyder for the Paris Motor Show, and it’s giving us a rare glimpse into what went on behind the scenes. It took five months to turn the sketches into the Paris runway beauty, and Audi tells the story from the viewpoint of the designers modeling and how they balance styling with feasibility. Much of it was, of course, hand made, but even then it went beyond Audi’s show-car usual, such as building wheels each containing 66 individual parts.

Not surprisingly, the tale begins like a superhero fable – “It is a functional, rectangular building with a gray facade – a hall like thousands of others in the industrial parks dotting our cities…” – and you’ll find the details after the jump.
